Ground fighting and submission grappling, leverage over strength, technique over size.
Brazilian Jiu-jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art that focuses on ground fighting and submission holds, joint locks and chokes, rather than striking. Developed in Brazil by the Gracie family from traditional Japanese Ju-jitsu, BJJ's core philosophy is that a smaller, weaker person can overcome a larger opponent using superior technique and leverage.
DoBu offers more BJJ sessions per week than any other discipline, reflecting its enormous popularity. Classes cover takedowns, guard play, positional control, submissions and defensive escapes. Students progress through a belt system (white → blue → purple → brown → black) under an IBJJF-consistent framework.
BJJ also provides a foundation for MMA competition. DoBu's head instructor Mauricio Gomez holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt and has extensive competition experience at international level.
