Traditional Shotokan Karate, striking, kata and kumite for all skill levels.
Karate is a Japanese martial art that emphasises striking techniques, punches (tsuki), kicks (geri), knee strikes (hiza geri) and elbow strikes (empi uchi). Originating in Okinawa and formalised in Japan in the early 20th century, Shotokan Karate is one of the world's most recognised martial arts systems.
DoBu teaches traditional Shotokan Karate as developed by Gichin Funakoshi. Students progress through a structured kyu (coloured belt) and dan (black belt) grading syllabus affiliated with a recognised governing body. Training integrates three pillars: kihon (basics), kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).
Karate fosters discipline, respect and self-confidence alongside practical striking ability. It is suitable for absolute beginners and experienced practitioners alike, with classes structured to challenge all levels simultaneously.
